Meet my latest giant creation: a 180 cm tall plush beetroot, custom designed and handcrafted for Lidl Netherlands.
The process begins with selecting the finest materials. Premium fabrics, carefully chosen for their texture and durability, form the foundation of each creation. The color palette is thoughtfully curated to bring each character to life, respecting the brief received.
This wasn't just another oversized plush. It had a mission. At festivals across the Netherlands, visitors stepped into Lidl's custom-built dance space, the music got louder, the crowd looked up... and right on the biggest beat...the giant beet dropped from the ceiling. Instant smiles. Phones in the air. A dance floor suddenly united by one enormous flying vegetable.
Creating this leafy giant was one of the most exciting engineering puzzles I've ever tackled as a plush designer. It wasn't enough for it to simply look soft and adorable.
The brief:
🌿 safely hang above a dancing crowd
🎵 survive hours of bouncing and shaking to the music
🍃 keep its massive leaves proudly standing with hidden internal wire structures
❤️ and still remain unmistakably... a cuddly plush.
Watching something that began as sketches, fabric and countless hours of sewing become the star of a festival dance floor is one of those magical moments that reminds me why I love creating giant plush sculptures.I may be slightly biased... but every plush deserves its moment in the spotlight. This one simply chose a DJ booth instead of a toy shelf.
